Ceramics from the Azores

To talk about the ceramics of the Azores I start by making an introduction

Azores is a Portuguese archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

The archipelago of the Azores consists of 9 islands

In October I spent some days to one of the central islands:
 Terceira Island.

The green fields of Terceira invite its inhabitants and tourists to walk enjoying a landscape formed by innumerable shades. The green of its pastures, embellished by its flowers and framed by the blue of the sea and the sky, does not go unnoticed.

The island's economy is mainly based on agriculture (dairy farming) and dairy processing industries.
Cows are everywhere ....

   Cheese
 "Queijo Vaquinha"
  is the oldest of the
 cheeses of the
 Island Terceira

The colorful Impérios, present in all the parishes of the island and the countless churches, testify the popular devotion to the divine Holy Spirit.

Impérios is the denomination of the small temple of typology unique in the national architectural panorama where, between the Easter Sunday and the Sundays of Pentecostes or the Trinity, predominantly, the Holy Spirit is venerated in the Island Terceira of the Azores. Around the Impérios, the festivities of the Holy Spirit, imbued with a charitable ideal and composed of religious and secular ceremonies, are being developed for several days: the "coronation" of the Emperor Boy, the procession of courtiers and the "bodo" of bread and of meat.

And finally I show something I really liked: pieces of ceramics produced and painted in the Azores

"The ceramic industry of Lagoa, which has been established throughout the 19th century and which can not be excluded from the ceramic industry of Northern Portugal, has begun the production of earthenware in the Azores with the serial production of pieces painted with flowers and other vegetalistic motifs enameled in white and presented in the form of tea, coffee, terrines, dishes and various decorative objects.
